Since graduating our students have become involved in sustainable agriculture and energy!
Through unique modzi internships, our graduates have been leading various sustainable agricultural projects in Zambia. Most recently, we have seen how their new internship knowledge translates to green growing projects at home. |
We have a huge focus on composting our food waste! In an effort to better our environmental impact, we take time to keep and compost food scraps from home. Ultimately, our food feeds our farm and helps us to grow new nutritious food for our family.
A note from our Project Manager:
My name is Cleo and I am one of modzi’s first graduate students. Upon completing my high school education, society has thought me different things and I have witnessed different struggles people go through due to the lack of long-term thinking for future consumption. Seeing how climate has been affecting our globe and how population increases food demand today, I thought of creating a farming project to involve modzi youth. The idea behind our green initiative is to improve our local environment and sustain our daily lives via innovative methods of gardening and recycling. Together, we aim to fight poverty and poor health while also providing agricultural and life skills to our graduate students. |
As I have observed how the climate of the globe is changing, I have become more concerned about what type of food people are able to grow and the nutrition that they need. Climate change is affecting a lot around the world today and our food industry is no exception.
I have been working on my project of green gardening to create opportunity for our community to share their unique knowledge of agriculture as well as increase access to better health and nutrition.
We keep planting what we love! Our idea is to produce enough fruit, vegetables, and herbs to incorporate homegrown food into the majority of our modzi family’s meals. We plant what we love to eat and what we think is most healthy for us in our daily lives. We hope to share our knowledge and what we are doing with our local communities so that people should not depend on buying meat and other high-risk animal products.
To date, we have grown gardens of aloe vera, beans, broccoli, carrots, chili, corn, cucumber, flowers, groundnuts, lettuce, okra, onions, rape, rosemary, spinach, and tomatoes.
