Africa Access Water (AfAW) is a non-profit organization that provides and delivers solar powered water systems in Africa. AfAW affirms that water is at the center of socio-economic development and advocates that water is a key resource for production, food security, and poverty eradication. |
The water programs implemented by AfAW create clean drinking water, improve agricultural irrigation systems, better hygiene + sanitation, and support community wealth creation. Africa Access Water continues to research, advocate, and lobby for better national, regional, and global environmental policies. AfAW also continues to offer unique internships to modzi graduate students, including field experience, research, and data collection.

Northeastern encourages its students to explore their interests through various opportunities such as international field-studies and formal cooperative education (co-op) programs. |
modzi has hosted several Northeastern University students in Zambia via direct service-learning, international co-op, and summer field-study programs. modzi also continues to collaborate with on-campus student groups in the United States.
Barefeet Theatre, an NGO started and based in Lusaka, Zambia, empowers vulnerable youth through performing arts. Barefeet utilizes creativity, art, theater, community outreach programs, and educational workshops to teach children to make positive choices. The organization's multi-faceted approach addresses the needs of children living on the street, promotes their healthy development, and increases their self-esteem through artistic expression. |
modzi's encouragement of pursuing one's passions has led to student participation in several of Barefeet's programs. Some modzi students have served as elected members on Barefeet's Children Council, a safe space for young activists to advocate for change in Zambia. Other modzi students have participated in the Barefeet Youth Arts Festival, which gives children the opportunity to, "learn from and share the stage with world-renowned talent."

"Vision of Hope is a transitional safe home for girls ages 11-18 who are experiencing homelessness due to poverty, lack of family support, or abuse in the home. Vision of Hope provides financing for education and medical care, skills training, and counseling to young girls in crisis that have no access to support systems. Because we feel the best place for youth is at home with their families, Vision of Hope provides family counseling in order to ensure that girls are reintegrated into a supportive home environment."
Circus Zambia is a non-governmental organization (NGO), grown from and supported by Barefeet Theatre. After gaining extensive experience from global tours, performances, trainings, workshops, and international studies in China, four young artists returned to Zambia and together decided to create Circus Zambia. |
Circus Zambia hosts circus and acrobatic workshops for vulnerable youth, and is currently in the process of building a social circus school in the heart of Chibolya. Chibolya is regarded as one of the most impoverished and dangerous areas of Lusaka, Zambia's capital city. There are very few NGO's in Chibolya and almost no government facilities. Circus Zambia offers children a chance to be inspired and participate in something happening in their community.
All of the acrobats from Circus Zambia were born and raised in Chibolya, resulting in a unique ability to connect with the children in their programs. Currently, Circus Zambia works with numerous young people on a weekly basis, teaching them both circus skills and life skills, free of charge. Circus Zambia creates, "a place where you can run, jump, fly and land safely."

"Lukundo Foundation wants the children living on the streets to know that they are valued and loved, despite their circumstances. In order to reach these children and improve their outcomes, Lukundo aims to take certain programs to the street, including Games/Sports Day, Day & Night Outreach, and Motivational Talks. For Lukundo programs to be successful, they collaborate with the different local and international organizations helping the Lusaka street children and street youth."
Fountain of Hope is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide shelter and schooling to children living on the street, orphaned and abandoned children, and vulnerable youth from poverty stricken families. Fountain of Hope has both a community school and a residential center for young children. Fountain of Hope is also home to a medical clinic, gender-based violence center, and the original Lubuto Library. |
