Since its creation, Sidney has been an advocate for modzi and its students. From in-country work to international programming, her focus has been on supporting the organization’s growth.
Sidney holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services from Northeastern University with a specialization in Social Justice, Identity, and Religion. Throughout her undergraduate studies, Sidney focused on child development and community engagement in places including Jordan, India, Morocco, and Zambia. She maintains proficiency in multiple dialects of Arabic from her experiences throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Sidney strongly believes that capacity building projects can have a lasting impact on communities, and that positive role models can inspire confidence and encourage individual expression.
In 2014, Sidney was awarded the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Intensive Critical Language Scholarship to participate in language immersion in Morocco. She returned to the program in 2018 as a Resident Director, facilitating educational programming in-country on behalf of the US government.
In her professional career, Sidney has worked in both formal and non-formal educational settings, from teaching at a private international school in Egypt to psycho-social work at a refugee camp in Greece. She has traveled extensively throughout South East Asia, honing her cross-cultural communication skills and understanding. Living and working abroad has taught Sidney cultural humility and strengthened her ability to work and connect with others from diverse backgrounds.
